Greetings from the Arabic, Persian, and Turkish Language Institute (APTLI)! APTLI is an intensive, eight-week language program held each summer in Madison, Wisconsin. Students receive the equivalent of one year of language study during this time and earn eight credits upon completion of the program. In addition to language classes, APTLI students can attend lectures on Middle East Studies topics, participate in cultural events and activities, have access to language tutors, and network with other scholars of Middle East Studies. Undergraduates, graduates, professionals, and non-traditional students are all welcome to apply!
In addition to Arabic, Persian, and Turkish languages, APTLI is now offering Elementary Hebrew to study during our Summer 2022 program! We are so excited to expand our program and watch our students grow along with us. Interested applicants can apply at aptli.wisc.edu/application/.
The priority application deadline is April 1, 2022. After this date, interested applicants should email aptli@lpo.wisc.edu to inquire if space on the program is still available.

Several funding opportunities exist for undergraduates and graduate students, researchers, and working professionals. APTLI students are eligible to apply for Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) award funding (deadline is February 14, 2022), WISLI Tuition Scholarships (Deadline is March 15, 2022; APTLI is part of the larger Wisconsin Intensive Summer Language Institutes (WISLI)), and other available funding through UW-Madison. And new for Summer 2022, currently enrolled Madison Area Technical College students can apply for full funding to attend APTLI via the Madison Gateway Scholarship (deadline is March 15, 2022).
This year we are planning on conducting the sessions in person in Madison, Wisconsin. However, APTLI staff will continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and will reevaluate the modality as needed.
