Greetings Spanish teachers! I teach at Fordham University, have a PhD in linguistics from Stanford, and published my first book, ¿Por qué? 101 Questions about Spanish, with Bloomsbury Academic Press in 2016. Routledge has now published my second book, Bringing Linguistics into the Spanish Language Classroom: A Teacher's Guide. This book presents the insights from Hispanic linguistics that are of greatest interest and utility in the Spanish language classroom, along with ideas for thematic in-class activities and take-home projects. Topics include comparisons of Spanish with English and other languages, the history of Spanish, dialects and other types of variation, and psycholinguistics. Each chapter has an accompanying PowerPoint that provides all necessary supporting materials: more than 300 slides in total. Bringing Linguistics... is available on Amazon and on the Routledge website, where you can also download the PowerPoints (which are under copyright). This book was a labor of love, especially the slides, and I hope that other Spanish teachers will find it of value.
